Don’t Drink and Post -- More of the Dark Side of Social Media

This has been touched on a number of times.  Too often, professionals post something on social media that ends up adversely impacting their professional lives.   During the holiday season, with extra time on your hands and liquid courage helping you getting the words flowing could get you in trouble.  An example of this is a recent incident with a Belding MI Firefighter that was fired.

A former Marine and a Belding firefighter managed to get into a lively debate on Facebook about the San Francisco 49er quarterback with a woman in California.   The firefighter who stated that he had been drinking and does not remember the posts, posted some racially offensive statements on Facebook.  The firefighter later deleted the posts but by then they had been reposted.  He was rightfully fired from him job.

While everyone worries about drinking and driving and taking the keys away from a drunken friend, it is much more difficult to take the cell phone and computer away from a drunken poster.   So from a previous post of   "Post Ready Think Aim" add do not post when you are under the influence.  The consequences can be devastating to your professional career.
