L Squared will be closing at noon today, for staff to spend time with their families. Many companies have Good Friday traditions. Some are hard to explain in present day.
A Wisconsin insurer that I was an officer at in the 80’s and 90’s had an interesting tradition. Employees were allowed to take a couple of hours off on Good Friday afternoon to go to church. They were expected to come back to work for the reminder of the day after the service. That obviously is not that unusual and a nice tradition.
But what sets this tradition apart was that the company president had designated another officer and some of his staff to go ‘visit’ the different churches in town. They were taking attendance of the employees that had left to go to church. Employees also were expected to bring back church bulletins. None of the employees that left wanted to be caught in a local bar celebrating Good Friday.
Another Good Friday tradition I am aware of was at the Jack Daniels Distillery in Lynchburg TN. Not sure if many people are aware that Lynchburg TN is a ‘dry’ county. You cannot buy any alcohol until you leave the county. But I digress from their tradition.
Jack Daniels had an interesting incentive plan. On the last Friday of every month, each employee was given a 5th of Jack Daniels. The Jack Daniels employees call this ‘Good Friday’.
