The possibility of disputes between you and your client and other parties is a part of any business including accountants and bookkeepers. There is also the risk that disputes can escalate to a claim of professional negligence. What should accountants and bookkeepers do if there is a possibility or the reality of a claim of professional negligence and what should they expect during the process? What can make a claim worse and what can be done to assist in achieving the goal of a favorable outcome? Finally, what are the advantages and disadvantages of various dispute resolution processes such as mediation, arbitration, and litigation? These are common questions and issues that accompany most professional liability claims and how they are addressed, or not, may contribute to the claim’s outcome.
